Riverside has a culture of supporting the development of public speaking skills so students can voice their opinions with confidence.
In 2013, we celebrated our greatest success to date when a year 11 student won the state Plain English Speaking competition and represented NSW at the Australian championships in Alice Springs.
This success followed an amazing run of high achievement for the girls coached by one of our inspiring teachers. His students were finalists at state level in this competition for five consecutive years before the title win.
Students also participate in class and competitive debates. Riverside has a proud history of high achievement in debating, consistently winning at zone and inter- district level.
I am part of the debating team (as geeky as debating sounds, only the swaggest people can handle the pressure!) And as a team we made it all the way to the regional final – only losing to North Sydney (who went on to win the state finals). Year 8 Student.
