There are important transition times during which Riverside staff provide excellent support for students.
Before High School
Positive relationships and excitement in learning is established with our local students through the Primary Links program. Local primary schools select year 4 or 5 students to attend a learning program in visual arts, science, music or media with our gifted and talented students.
This enables potential students to familiarise themselves with the school and to build connections with our current students.
Starting High School
With an Orientation Day in the December prior to starting Year 7 and a very welcoming peer support program using Year 10 students, our new Year 7's are able to settle in quickly to their new learning environment.
We start the year with knowledge of the students strengths with teachers from Primary schools and Riverside working collaboratively and sharing information.
Starting Senior School
Students are supported to choose senior subjects through one to one subject counselling with the careers teacher, deputies and specialist teachers.
Year 12 begins with a 3 day camp at which students learn time management skills to balance school, work, social and family commitments and also to enjoy the final year of their schooling. Also students write a letter of gratitude to their support group members which may include parents, family or friends. At Riverside we believe that working together as a community of learners will students achieve their personal best.
Starting Life After School
Our dedicated careers centre has information about tertiary and other educational opportunities. Students are encouraged to discuss their career aspirations with the careers adviser. This is also the place that girls can organise work experience and Tax File Number applications.
